Radioactive material has a bad rep in movies and comics, always appearing as a bucket of slime with a yellow radioactive symbol or a skull and crossbones drawing. And that reputation is surely deserved, as radioactive material is very dangerous, although radioactivity is not always portrayed realistically. In this classic video by Veritasium, Derek Muller travels to many of the world’s most radioactive places.

Not only does Derek go inside the infamous sites of many radioactive disasters or just natural radioactivity, but he also explains exactly how you measure radioactivity and how much of that is healthy for you to absorb on a yearly basis. It’s amazing to see the incredibly dangerous amounts of radioactivity in some of these places, such as the site of the Chernobyl disaster. And let me tell you: if you don’t already know, stay away from radioactive places. This video will show you that.
