Presidents aren’t usually known for their knowledge of popular culture, coolness, or anything of that sort. And, that trend stayed with our current president Barack Obama throughout his one and a half terms; but, as the end of his period in office comes to a close, Obama seems to be going out on a limb and connecting with youth and popular culture.

He displayed this desire very well at the White House Correspondence Dinner recently, which he is required to go to, by the way. At the speech, he made a bunch of surprisingly funny jokes, such as he said, when he’s asked “‘Do you have a bucket list?’ I say, well I have something that rhymes with bucket.”

Along with inviting Cecily Strong, from SNL, to host a section of the dinner, Obama even invited Keegan Micheal-Key, from the hit comedy duo on Comedy Central Key And Peele, to replicate his Obama’s Anger Translator skit with the real Obama. And I have to say, as presidential speeches go, Obama’s one this year with Key was a pretty darn good one. Finally, a president has gotten in touch with what people want to hear at a dinner. I can tell you, this is the first White House Correspondence Dinner to ever make internet headlines. Nice job, Obama.
