We all love our local sports teams, whether it be soccer, football, baseball, hockey, or any other sport. And what is usually essential to having a good local sporting experience is having a good local stadium. In the Bay Area, where I live, the San Jose Earthquakes (the  soccer team) just got a new stadium, and it makes going to watch the games much more enjoyable. But, as John Oliver talks (and jokes) about in his most latest show, these stadiums aren’t always beneficial to the communities around them.

In the video, you will learn that professional sports teams, mostly football, hockey, basketball and baseball, often ask the cities they play in for money to fund a new stadium. And then lengths the teams will go to get that stadium is astounding, even to the point of making attacking ads against their own cities saying they will leave if they don’t get a new stadium. One ad even featured a ridiculously cheesy rap about their threat to leave the city. Overall, the video by John Oliver is not only funny but shines light on an interesting and debate worthy topic.
