Can you take something, like a bar of chocolate, cut it, and put it back together while at the same time creating more of that thing out of thin air? No, not really, but this is a question that is deeply explored by Michael from Vsauce in this great video. Although it seems that the video would be short and straightforward, as the answer is obviously no, there is something called the Banach–Tarski Paradox that makes this question a little harder to answer.

Not only does this video explore the Banach–Tarski Paradox in depth, and succeeds to blow your mind continually throughout the video, but Michael also goes into a related topic that is just as fascinating: infinities. As some of you may know, there are multiple types of infinity, and some are bigger than others. This knowledge is very useful when trying to think about the Banach–Tarski Paradox, and is overall very interesting. And at the end of the video, you will learn why the question, “Can you take something and cut it, then put it back together while at the same time creating more of that thing out of thin air?”, is more applicable and based in real life than you may think.
