Basically, lots of Syrians are leaving their war-torn country and the countries they are taking refuge in aren’t ready to house and support them. There must be a solution, and an Egyptian billionaire decided that the way he will help is to make a private island for the refugees.
In this great video by The Daily Conversation, you’ll learn all about the crisis, and the billionaire’s plan to house them. Essentially, he is planning on buying an Italian or Greek island and then letting Syrian refugees live there. The island will be totally undeveloped, so creating a city to house and employ these refugees will take up a great sum of the billionaire’s wealth. But this doesn’t bother him, and even though it is costly and doesn’t help him directly, he has made it clear that he is only doing it to help the refugees in need.
