How many continents do you think there are? If you were taught in the US, you will answer 7: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia/Oceana, and Antarctica. But have you ever really thought about why we have these 7 continents, and what exactly qualifies them to be continents? We take these continents so seriously, people sometimes even giving a whole continent a stereotype despite the fact that a single continent can contain uncountable different races and cultures, but why? What is a continent?

That’s exactly the question that CGP Grey decided to answer, or at least try to answer, in this video. And he does a valiant job of trying at that; he tries geographical, cultural, and even geological reasons for 7 continents. Unfortunately for anyone like me who likes this kind of thing all tidied up and decided, Grey’s research on the continents only makes the whole situation even more confusing. But still, the video does a great job of outlining a couple different arguments for how many continents there are, but as he said at the end of the video, there are as many continents as you want there to be.
