Sometimes it’s better to learn in short, staccato bursts rather than in the traditional, hour-long lectures. Since the beginning of communication, the only real way to learn something was to spend a good amount of time reading a book or listening to someone lecture on a subject. But that all changed with the invention of the Internet, as the amount of content consumers can reach has grown exponentially. We can now read articles and watch videos of any length on any topic, and while longform, lengthy videos and pieces of writing are still a great way to learn, shorter content has risen in popularity very fast. Even still, I would estimate the average educational video, or even video in general, is about 5-10 minutes long. Life Noggin is a educational channel that makes videos on a wide range of topics, usually relating to science, that are 1-3 minutes long and always very entertaining.

For people who like to learn just for the fun of it, and don’t always like to sit through lengthy or in-depth educational videos, Life Noggin is a perfect channel to get in your daily science fix once or twice a week. With 130,000 subscribers, Life Noggin has created 76 short educational videos, and continue to make more weekly. The channel has developed a great blocky aesthetic to its animation, the narrator of the videos even named “Blocko” and depicted as a white, blocky character. Altogether, the aesthetic, excellent animation, and great content makes for some great videos, one of my favorites being the one above.

Titled “Why Do We Forget Things?“, the video is about, well, how we forget things. In particular, how we forget things like names, birthdays, etc. From how we remember things in the first place to why we remember some things and not others, the video is very interesting, entertaining, and educational, all in 1 minute and 45 seconds. 2 minutes isn’t much time, but Life Noggin makes it work, creating a video that is sufficiently educational and very enjoyable.

And that’s pretty much the way it is with every Life Noggin video; they are short, enjoyable, and very educational. The channel has in the past made videos on all sorts of subjects, including bacon, cameras, time, anxiety, language, and more, and will continue to educate its viewers on a bunch of other topics in its upcoming videos. Overall, the videos, with their good animation and content, are a great way to satisfy your science craving for the day.
