Time is an interesting concept. When we imagine time, we most likely think of it in one of it’s most common forms: a timeline, or some other linear representation of time. It’s hard to explain exactly what time is — it just happens, and it’s always going forward at the same steady pace of 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year, and on average 78 years in a lifetime. And it had be the same way since, as the saying goes, the dawn of time, all the way back to the Big Bang.

And yet, if you ask any adult, or in fact are an adult yourself, you’ll see that most people feel like time is speeding up, and that every year is going by faster and faster. This isn’t accurate, or course, but it’s interesting nonetheless, and it’s the topic of today’s featured video by Derek Muller of Veritasium. In the video, Derek explores our perception of time, and discusses reasons for why, as we get older, time seems to speed up.

And as the video is on time, I thought I’d share one of my favorite quotes on the topic: “Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.”
