If you’ve ever seen the Lord Of The Ring movies, whether or not you liked the plot or movie in general, there is one thing you can admit: the score is one of the best ever made for a series of films (or any film in general, only Star Wats rivaling it in my mind). And there’s a reason for that, too; the score isn’t just a bunch of good prices of music strung together. Howard Shore, the composer behind the score for the whole Lord Of The Rings franchise, masterfully used a technique called “Leitmotifs”, which involves making scores for individual characters or groups, such as Bilbo Baggins or The Fellowship Of The Rings.

Shore did this so well that Evan Puschak, the creator behind The Nerdwriter, made a whole video on Shore’s use of Lietmotifs in the films, and I have to say, it’s pretty fascinating. Not only that, but Evan did a fantastic job editing and narrating the video, taking us on a journey through the world of Lord Of The Rings through music.
