With modern technology, it’s fairly easy for someone with absolutely no talent whatsoever to make music. Using software like Garageband and a plethora of free apps, anyone can make pretty professional-sounding songs very easily. Even the modern music industry is dominated by songs produced or made completely on computers, although the skill level involved in that is much higher. But the level of talent required to make a machine, one made out of mainly just wood and metal, that can play a song almost completely by itself? That would take one heck of a team of musicians and builders, and luckily for us, Wintergatan, a Swedish band, took on this challenge and hit it out of the park.

Through a complex system of levers, gears, ball bearings, and almost Rube-Goldberg-esque machinery, the Wintergatan Marble Machine can play a whole song with little human help, a bass guitar, xylophone, kick drum, hi-hat, and cymbal all part of the Marble Machine’s instrument repertoire. It’s amazing to see the machine in action, and I have to say, the song it plays is really quite good by itself, nevermind the fact that it’s being played by a wood machine operated by only one person.
