Ever since antibiotics were invented, and the subsequently popularized, developed countries around the world have pretty much gotten used to a world without many of the devastating diseases that plagues the pre-modern world. Antibiotics have become mainstream, a medicine that used to be last resort but has now become much more commonly taken and prescribed. There’s a good chance you have taken antibiotics many times over the course of your lifetime, and that’s not necessarily a good thing. While antibiotics surely cure many sicknesses for people around the world every day, the overuse of it may result in the collective cultivation of a “superbug”, essentially a bacteria that is immune to all current medications.

In this very interesting and slightly unsettling video by Kurzgesagt, you’ll learn all about what they call the “Antibiotic Apocalypse”, and how we may all be helping grown this superbug as we speak. Don’t worry; all hope is not lost, but it is nice to know how our demise may come about, and what we can do to be aware of it and help prevent it.
