“Psychopath” is a loaded word as words go. Society has labeled psychopaths as dangerous, usually mentally unstable people you definitely don’t want to be around. To what extent is that true? It’s hard to say. Certainly, psychopaths tend to display behaviors that may, in extreme cases, end up with you in jail or a mental hospital. But, as Jon Ronson talks about in his captivating TED talk on his experience in learning about psychopaths and psychopath spotting, the line between crazy and sane may be more blurred than you might have previously thought.

In the talk, Jon talks about how, in researching psychopaths for a book he later wrote on psychopathy, he learned about how to spot a psychopath, he met psychopaths (including one that the story revolves around by the name of Tony), and questioned the sanity of defining people by one mental disorder such as “psychopath”. It’s quite an amazing talk, using animation, sound, music, and Jon’s great storytelling ability to suck you into the story, as well as teach you a lot about psychopaths and why they might not be such a black and white group as society portrays them.
