In the realm of science, the origin story of the universe is still a pretty mysterious event. We don’t know much about how it happened and why it happened, but there is a widespread consensus among scientists that the Big Bang is the correct model for the beginning of the universe (we still don’t know what caused it, although we do have theories). The reason that scientists are in agreement on this is because of the experimental evidence found in favor of the Big Bang, evidence that turned the study of the early universe on its head.

The crazy thing about this discovery in question is that, for the most part, it was an accident. Known as Cosmic Background Radiation, or the Cosmic Afterglow, as the video is titled, scientists stumbled upon this faint hum that was later determined to be remnants of the Big Bang from billions of years ago. In this great video by It’s Okay To Be Smart, Joe Hansen tells you all about Cosmic Background Radiation and its discovery in an interesting and entertaining way.
