One of the most successful comics of all time, Calvin and Hobbes is well known for it’s outstandingly funny and often profound cartoons. Drawn, written, and colored all by Bill Waterson, Calvin and Hobbes chronicled the adventures of a rambunctious and imaginative boy Calvin and his pet tiger, Hobbes. For 10 straight years, the strip ran in newspapers, as well as in many compilation books over the years, constantly defying the conventions set by other the medium of print and other comic artists. There’s no doubt Calvin and Hobbes is one of the best comics to ever have run, and the video above talks about why that is.

Made by kaptainkristian, the video above explores what made Calvin and Hobbes such a great strip. Not only was Calvin and Hobbes funny, but they often talked about important issues, were simply great pieces of art, and occasionally were even profound in a surprisingly thought-provoking way. The video above, while aesthetically amazing with stunning animation, also does a great job in explaining just why Calvin and Hobbes is so great, and it’s overall effect on the medium of comics in general.
