It’s been a while since the news of the newest tropical disease since Ebola, the Zika virus, started reaching dangerous levels of infected people. As we learned, Zika affects pregnant mothers in that it directly causes microcephaly in their children, meaning they are born with abnormally small heads and underdeveloped brains. The outbreak started in Brazil and slowly spread around the world due to the incredible interconnectivity of modern society due to transportation in the likes of airplanes, boats, and trains. Zika has officially been found in an alarming amount of US citizens, over 300, and has even made Florida declare a state-wide health emergency.
