Over the last decade or so, the Internet has become many people’s primary, if not only source of news and information about what’s going on in the world around them. Whether that be through reputable online journals and newspapers, news aggregation sites, or even social media, people have largely shifted from receiving news from the television and radio to receiving it through articles, videos, and other online media. But along with that, as Mike Rugnetta of PBS Idea Channel talks about in the video above, there is a certain risk to that: the risk of receiving a biased news stream.

Of course, biases aren’t absent from any type of news, but recently Facebook has been in the spotlight because of investigations into it’s “Trending” section excluding conservative ideas and therefore directly impacting the current election. The fascinating video above talks about that in much more depth, going into why news is biased in the first place and why we aren’t likely to escape it any time soon.
