Dystopian fiction is a large genre of fiction, specifically science-fiction, in today’s popular media. Whether that be through TV, movies, or books, dystopian stories seem to have a knack of catching an audience’s attention and imagination. From The Hunger Games to Divergent to Mad Max: Fury Road, these stories are all around us, telling us of a future that we should look out for and avoid at all costs.

The fascinating video above, made by TED-Ed, tells you all about the history of dystopian novels, why they are so popular, and what they are really trying to get at in the first place.
