Ever wonder why February only has 28 days? It doesn’t make any sense, it should have 30 or 31. But 28? It seems that whoever created the calendar we use today was just trying to mess with every generation of people who came after them. Most of us know that a precursor to the calendar we use today was created by the Romans, so we can we can blame this on them, right?

Pretty much. As Joe Hansen explains in this video by It’s Okay To Be Smart, (a cheesy name, I know) February go stuck as the odd one out only by a combination of the installment of leap years, trying to match the calendar to the time Earth takes to go around the sun and more pandemonium like that. It’s pretty cool that some random decisions by some Roman emperors trying to make a calendar has befuddled countless generations on why poor February only has 28 days (except on leap year!) rather than 30 or 31.

We should really make a better calendar. After around 2,000 years with this calendar, we’re due for an update. (maybe one that gives equal days to every month)
