What would pop culture be without iconic figures like Charlie Chaplin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and George Clooney. These stories, told in popularized film form, create a foundation upon which incredibly an amazing culture can flourish. Plus, talking about them, watching them and picking them apart is a lot of fun, and that is definitely shown in one of Youtube’s most successful film channel, Screen Junkies.
With over 4 million subscribers, Screen Junkies is a channel pretty much based off of one very popular and funny video series: Honest Trailers. An Honest Trailer is a video in which the writers behind Screen Junkies make fun of many overall plot points, in many hilarious ways. Screen Junkies have parodied a trailer for pretty much every single hit, classic movie, as well as new, popular movies, ranging from Guardians of The Galaxy to The Little Mermaid. Every character, plot point, setting, motive, and even just funny observation is included in this creative outlook on what actually, as the name says, would be an Honest Trailer for a movie. The video above, the most popular Honest Trailer with over 24 million views, is a great example of how funny Honest trailers are.
Although Screen Junkies could create a channel only making Honest Trailer videos, and it would be very popular, they also create a couple other video series that are also very fun to watch. First of all, Screen Junkies runs a popular series called Movie Fights. Movie Fights is a series where online film critics, Screen Junkies writers, and more fight and debate different fan suggested questions; for instance, two questions debated in the last episode of Movie Fights were Which franchise deserves its own day like Star Wars?, and Age Of Ultron – Does it live up to the hype. Each guest on the show bring in their own answers to debate, and it can get heated sometimes. To a real movie fan, it is very interesting and entertaining for movie experts to debate interesting questions, and of course, if you can’t relate to a certain question, Movie Fights have a handy button which you can click and go to the question you want to see them fight about. Even if you aren’t a fan of a certain movie they are fighting about, the videos are always interesting, and worth the watch, even if you only watch a couple fights.
And finally, Screen Junkies creates videos which they call The Screen Junkies Show! This series contains any other skit, supercut or video that the people behind Screen Junkies want to create; whether it’s reactions to trailers, top 10 lists, best of x videos, and a great variety of other videos, The Screen Junkies Show! is basically a title under which every other video that aren’t Movie Fights and Honest Trailers that Screen Junkies make, usually hosted by Hal Rudnick. These videos follow more of the Youtube style, rather than the TV show style of Movie Fights and the unique style of Honest Trailers. These videos are always a fun insight into movies, and perfect for movie lovers.
Overall, Screen Junkies is a channel perfect for, well, screen junkies. If you watch all the new movies, or even if you just like classic movies, you are sure to love Screen Junkies. Honest Trailers and Movie Fights, Screen Junkies’ two standout series, are both consistently funny and entertaining. Personally, I’m not a terribly big movie fan myself, and I still love the channel. A great channel in general, and arguably the best film channel on Youtube.
