Bullet Ants, in my opinion, are one of the most underrated animals in the planet. Not only are they venomous, but they are tiny, and have amazing assassin-like stealth because of that. But in all seriousness, Bullet Ants are actually very deadly. In this interesting video by thebrainscoop, EmilyGraslie talks to a Bullet Ant expert, Dr. Corrie Moreau, who showed her how to do something you’d never think you’d do: milk a Bullet Ant.
It’s a pretty dangerous task, as it involves, well… Bullet Ants. Essentially, you have to somehow get the ant to sting the top of a test tube, and eject its venom into it. It’s a very interesting and unique processĀ and is surprisingly entertaining to watch.
One last thing: the ants they work with are domesticated. Not domesticated like a dog, but at least used to human handling. No matter what, if you can domesticate ants, I give you some respect.
