It’s a question you might’ve thought about before: how big is the universe? We already know that we are just a tiny spec in the seemingly infinite expanse of space that is the universe, as that’s glaringly obvious every time you simply look up at the night sky and see the thousands and thousands of stars filling the firmament. But one thing we haven’t quite yet figured out yet is just how big the universe actually is, and although that seems simple, it may very well be impossible to every find out how.

Hank Green explains why that is, through interesting astrophysics and science, in this video. As it turns out, we probably will never know how large the universe is because we are stuck in our own little bubble scientists call the “observable universe”. While even that topic alone is riddled with complex physics, Hank explains it all in an easy-to-understand way, so that even if you’ve never taken a physics class in your life, you too can understand more about the universe around you. Even if you’re just understanding that we may never really know the size of the universe, that is.
