Not often do I feature videos nominated for academy awards, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. Titled “Fresh Guacamole”, the short film was nominated in 2013 for the Best Animated Short Film award, and although it didn’t win that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that it’s a brilliant film. Only 1 minute and 40 seconds long, the short film uses the technique of stop-motion animation in a very unique and creative way to create a stunning video depicting a rather mundane scene: making guacamole.

Made by animator/filmmaker PES, the film is only one of PES’ many films made using his unique style of stop-motion. You’ll have to watch it to see for yourself, but the effect he uses makes it seems as if real world objects like dice, Christmas lights, poker chips, and more are acting like other real world objects, in this case, ingredients in guacamole. Altogether, Fresh Guacamole is a great short film, taking advantage of PES’ unique techniques to create a novel, fun, and captivating video overall.
