Loading...We all know the tune; the song Over The Rainbow, sung by Judy Garland in the classic movie The Wizard Of Oz. What’s amazing about the song is that, not only is it incredibly famous in its original form, but it also has gained a reputation for its Hawaian/Polynesian-style cover by the late Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, a Hawaiian musician and performer. Israel’s version of the song has over 184 million views on YouTube, and is so different from the original song from The Wizard of Oz as to be almost a completely different song altogether. (and in my opinion just as good of a song)
In the video above, Peter Hollens, a YouTuber and singer, covers Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s version of Over The Rainbow using only his voice and the magic of video editing. By layering his voice many times over, Peter can create a whole a capella song in which he sings every part, and the final affect is amazing. The cover is pretty fantastic, a joy to listen to.
