Lars Andersen: a new level of archery

As someone who has tried archery, the age-old sport of shooting bow and arrows, I have to say that it’s pretty hard. Like, really hard. And of course, I am practicing archery the modern way, standing still, and shooting at a still target. But that’s nothing like what archery used to be used for, which is, well, shooting other people. And logically, those people would be trying really hard not to get shot.

What I’m trying to say here is that archery back then is probably a lot harder than archery now. The targets are moving, you’re moving, maybe even on a horse, and you simultaneously, have to try not to get killed yourself. Archers back then would have to shoot fast, and shoot accurately.

Which is hard, using the modern arrow-on-the-left technique. So, Lars Anderson searched through old documents and paintings, and found a technique that was used back in the days of old: the arrow going on the right side of the bow. (if you’re right-handed, vice versa for left)

Lars Anderson has practiced this technique for many years, and has been able to use it to shoot 3 arrows in under a second, shoot and arrow out of the air as it’s coming toward him, and many other amazingly awesome feats. Just watch the video above. This guy is like a real-life Hawkeye.
