Loading...There are some natural mysteries in the world that we just don’t know why they exist. One of them, at least until this last decade, is the very odd lake in India called Roopkund Lake. AKA, “Skeleton Lake”.
The reason that this lake in India is called Skeleton Lake is because, well, it is full with skeletons. Human skeletons, at that, and until the mid-2000s we had no idea why they were there. In this fascinating video by Atlas Obscura, you will learn the full story behind Skeleton Lake, how it was discovered, and why, just why, is there a lake filled to the brim with human remains in the middle of the Himalayas? As it turns out, through a series of investigations by National Geographic a couple years back, we do have pretty good evidence of what killed these people, along with an interesting tie-in to the age-old folk songs of the area.
