It’s really helpful to be able to easily explain science, whether a hard concept or not, and video is a great way to do that. With visuals, it is much easier to understand an abstract or hard to relate to concept, and the channel Kurzgesagt. (formally Kurz Gesagt – In A Nutshell) The channel has great graphics, interesting videos on science and other topics, and a knack for explaining that is extremely useful.
In case you’re wondering, Kurz Gesagt means “in a nutshell” in German, as it says in the title of the channel. The phrase pretty much sums what the channel is out to do; to make every subject they choose to be explained in a nutshell, and easy to understand.
A great example of a good video by Kurzgesagt is their video titled The History and Future of Everything — Time. That may seem like a pretty big topic to cover, but Kurzgesagt does it in an interesting way, giving you a unique perspective on how insignificantly small the time you are alive really is. Not only does the video tell you a lot about interesting science from the past, all the way back to the big bang, but Kurzgesagt animated this video especially well, and in a way that makes it easy to picture the time gaps.
Another great video by Kurzgesagt is their video on Ebola. Back when everyone was freaking out about the possibility that we would all die of Ebola, Kurzgesagt made this video explaining exactly what Ebola is, how it works, and why we really shouldn’t be afraid. As it turns out, and as you will learn in the video, Ebola is very deadly, and targets exactly what needs to be targeted to shut down your immune system. The main reason we shouldn’t be afraid is that Ebola doesn’t spread easily, and is incredibly hard to contract. The video explains this very well, and even goes into details that otherwise would be hard to understand.
Overall, Kurzgesagt is a very informative channel that isn’t afraid to tackle hard topics. They make videos that explain large concepts, like a video they did on war, or more specific, even sometimes timely topics, like Ebola or their recent video bees dying. The videos are expertly animated, in a fun and fluid style, which is part of the reason why these videos take so long to make; after all, they only post once a month. Kurzgesagt isn’t a channel you can fit in your daily routine, as they post not too often, but you can always count on being informed by their content and blown away by their animation.
