Loading...YouTube is filled with videos of all types, but one category of videos that have done especially well over the years is music. Music videos from popular artists like Rihanna and Taylor Swift attract view counts rivaling the biggest “home-grown” YouTubers, so to speak. But music videos are nothing new, so as per the YouTube laws of popularity, there has to be some music channels that are new, exciting, and fun to watch. (not that I don’t like T-Swift as much as the next guy)
Enter Pentatonix. The A Capella band started up a couple years ago when they competed in a competition TV show called The Singoff in 2011. The Singoff is a show specifically for A Capella groups, and although not all of the members of the band had even sung together at all the day before the auditions, they decided to join the competition just for fun. Fast forward to the end of the show and Pentatonix emerged as the winners of the competition, having arranged and performed some of the most memorable songs of the season.
Since then, Pentatonix have grown to become a large, popular band, even winning and Grammy and recording an album that went Platinum, two honors that not many bands or singers get. Their Christmas album did especially well, as their renditions of the old songs added a new and interesting, as well as nice to listen to, feel to the songs. They’re releasing a new self-titled album in a couple days, and one of their original songs from that album has even started being played on radios around the country.
More importantly, they are amazing as a band together, and they have a great YouTube channel on which they put new music videos and other fun, creative videos such as covers and “evolution of” videos, like the one above. With almost 10 million subscribers, Pentatonix has gathered a large following, and have garnered over 1.1 billion views. The band definitely uses their amazing talents to their full advantage, regularly making fun and astoundingly good videos.
And example of one such video is the video featured above, titled “The Evolution Of Music”. From Michael Jackson to Gregorian chants, Pentatonix covers many of the biggest hit styles and artists over the many years music has been a thing. All of the covers are very well performed and arranged, and the video as a whole is very well done, and their 71 million views for the video alone proves that. All of their videos like this one, small side projects separate from their original songs or albums are of this quality, which is partly why the channel is so popular.
Altogether, Pentatonix’s channel, PTXofficial, is one of the best music channels on all of YouTube. The band does a great job of growing both their YouTube career as well as expanding their music into traditional music distributors like radio. If you like cover videos, creative singing-based videos, or just like A Capella in general, then I would definitely suggest Pentatonix as you channel you should immediately subscribe to. And that should be all of you, as it’s hard not to like all the great videos Pentatonix creates on a regular basis.
