Sound is something that is all around us, and key to our lives as a whole, but most people don’t know too much about it. Sure, it’s a wave, and the speed of sound is around 800 mph, but what happens when sound is pushed to the extreme? You’ll find out in this great video by Joe Hanson, host of It’s Okay To Be Smart.

In the video, Joe talks about a variety of different situations in which sound acts not as we would expect. And while he’s at it, Joe teaches us a little about how sounds works in the first place. For instance, did you know that the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano gave off a boom of 180 decibels, double the loudness of an overhead airplane? Neither did I. Sound is something the we don’t usually pay that much attention to on a daily basis, but as you will learn in this video, it is way cooler than you could imagine.
