Do you love bacon? Of course you do, unless you’re vegetarian. Bacon has become so popular in modern culture, not only because of it’s amazing taste (for those who like it) but also its famous smell: “the smell of sizzling bacon”, that it has become almost an icon of nowadays American culture. But, could there be actual science behind why us Americans and everyone else in the world love bacon so much? As it turns out, yes, and in today’s featured video Asap Science shows us how it works.

As it turns out, there are many different reasons we love bacon, not the least of which is that the chemical reactions in the bacon while cooking it releases a certain compound that is we love to smell. Science! Also, not to rain on your parade, but bacon is pretty bad for you. It has 550 calories a piece, and, of course, nobody eats just one piece of bacon.
